Georgetown Day School (GDS),

Georgetown Day School (GDS), in Washington, DC, has over 1,000 students
from Pre-Kindergarten(4 year olds) to twelfth grade (18 year olds). Over a year ago, our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students (mainly girls) joined Girls Learn International, a national organization that promotes all girls’ rights to equal education and encourages partnerships with schools around the world.  During the year, GDS students learned more about Human Rights, particularly the Rights to Education, and were lucky to develop a relationship with Blue Sky School in Nepal.
The girls in each school exchanged letters and learned briefly about each other. In addition, the GDS girls in each grade held fund raising events to sponsor female students in the Blue Sky.  For example, the girls in seventh grade invited all the students to take part in a walk-a-thon (Fun Run) aroundthe neighborhood, and raised over two thousands dollars for the Blue Sky School students. We at GDS appreciate our partnership with the Blue Sky School and look forward to our continued relationship.
